DanganRopa Trigger Happy Havoc, Titanfall Beta

DanganRopa Trigger Happy Havoc (Vita)

Put in about 4 hours with the game and it's pretty awesome.  It's kind of a point and click adventure game mixed with Ace Attorney and Persona.  The basic premise of the game is that you were chosen to attend a special school that is guaranteed to produce successful people.  You enter the school and immediately the screen goes black and you wake up in a classroom without knowing what is going on.  From there you meet the other 15 classmates and are greeted by a strange talking bear who tells you that the only way to get out of the school is to kill another classmate and get away with it.

It's a strange and quirky game but is really fun to play.  Most of the game is roaming around the school and talking with the other students trying to build relationships until a murder occurs and then you have to find clues and eventually have to prove who is the murderer, if you choose the wrong person then everyone but the murderer dies.  The writing is well done and the music is great, the game just has a cool style that makes it different than any other game I've played.

It's on the Vita and I highly recommend the game if you have one.

Titanfall Beta

Got into the Xbox One beta this weekend and played through the tutorial and a couple of matches.  It's pretty fun but I think it's going to have trouble because of the high expectations that have been put on this game.  The movement in the game is really nice, as a soldier you can run along walls and double jump so moving around the level is fast and feels exciting.  The mechs also control well and have a dash move and some other perks that does mix up the game play well.   The AI is kind of suspect as there are AI bots in the game along side real people which is different than other FPS games as there are more people on the battlefield making it more frantic.

Basement

They got the sheetrock put up and floated this weekend so the next steps are to lay down the wood floor, place the trim, and then paint.  I picked out the carpet and the paint colors this weekend, I went with gray for everything.   I thought about painting the back wall and part of the ceiling black to reduce the light bouncing off the screen, but I will probably just put up some fabric as that is better at absorbing light and will help with the sound.  Hopefully they will have everything done in the next 2 weeks.

Threes, Splinter Cell

Threes (IOS)

An addictive IOS game that has you matching numbered tiles in multiples of 3's.  The game is a simple puzzle game but the sound effects really make the game. Each time you combine tiles it plays a sound effect of a voice saying a greeting and it's hard to believe but that makes the game for me, so much charm in a little voice.  It's $2 and well worth it.

Splinter Cell: Conviction (Steam)

I bought Splinter Cell Blacklist when it came out and played a bit but I never finished Conviction and Blacklist is kind of a sequel so I decided to finish the game this weekend and I succeeded.  I haven't played a game straight through in quite awhile and it felt great.  I really enjoyed the game and do recommend it.

Splinter Cell: Blacklist (Uplay)

For some reason I wanted to be stealthy this weekend.  After finishing Conviction I went straight into Blacklist and it's very easy to see how much technology have changed in a short time.  Conviction looks great but Blacklist is on another level especially on PC where they are using some really fancy tech.  The game is gorgeous and has some outstanding lighting effects.  The game play also feels much better and smoother.  The controls are a little different so I'm having to get out of the habit of a few button presses that do something different.  The game is a blast to play and the levels have 3 or 4 pathways through so you can experiment with different play styles.

Basement

They worked hard last week to try and get the sheet rock put up, mainly so the contractor can get his next draw, but they weren't able to start because of inspections.  The plumbing and electrical inspections went fine but they also have to get the HVAC inspected as well before the sheet rock goes up, it doesn't make much sense because all of the work was in the crawlspace but they weren't quite finished with that so they spent all weekend finishing that up.  Once the sheet rock is done then I think painting is next and I'm still debating the color.  I will probably go all gray, maybe 2 different shades, and put up velvet behind the screen.  The screen will take up most of the wall and the velvet will give it a theater look.

GridIron Solitaire, Might and Magic X, Skryim, Basement

GridIron Solitaire (Steam)

I've been reading the Dubious Quality blog for over 4 years and he decided to make a game without any programming knowledge.   He's been working on it for 2 years and it's finally out and it's fantastic.  It's a solitaire card game that is based on American Football which doesn't sound that it would work, but the choices you make in the game feel like real football choices.  He is an expert on simulation football so the stats in the game are on par with real football.  At the end of the season you will have opportunities to improve various aspects of your team.  I've been playing for the last week and it's strange how tense you can get while reading text events.  It's $10 on Steam and well worth the money.

Might and Magic X

I've played about an hour and it's been pretty fun so far.  I never really played the older games in the series but I did play the Eye of the Beholder games which were similar.  I've read some things about balance issues so I'm waiting on a patch or two before I really start my adventure.  It was in early access for awhile and was finally released last week.

Skyrim

I've finally found an ENB that I can use that is playable and makes Skyrim look incredible.  I'm using the Quietncool ENB and I'm getting about 40fps in high congested areas and 60 in interiors so it works well.

Basement

Spent the weekend running my speakers and other AV wires, I am not built for that line of work.  I almost broke my finger while changing out a bit using a chuck.  I ran 20 different wires with most of them being in the crawlspace so I spent a lot of time on my knees and even though I had knee pads I'm very sore this morning.  I have a couple more to run and will need to finish quickly as they hope to have the drywall up by Friday.  Next up is the hard choices of what colors to use for the floor, tile, and paint.  I'm thinking I want a dark grey paint and grey carpet with some sort of texture.  I would like the screen wall to be black and at least part of the ceiling black so that it won't diminish my light output.

Dark Souls, Fallout: New Vegas, Metal Gear Revengence

I was off last week and got bids on my basement remodel so now I have to decide who to use.  I'll post some pictures later in the week on what I have planned.   I spent most of the time working on that but did get a little gaming in and for some reason I was attracted to older titles instead of the hot new stuff.

Dark Souls

It's probably one of my top 3 games ever and I just now beat the main campaign.  I bought it originally on the 360 when it was released and played for around 50 hours and got to a tough spot and quit.  I then bought the PC version when it came out a year later and was addicted again for about 50 hours and got to where I was stuck on the 360 version.  I took a month break and finally got past that area and added another 10 hours, that was back in September.  I got the urge again last week and put in another 15 hours and beat the main game, I still have some DLC to beat but just finishing the main game is an accomplishment.

The game is really awesome and if you've never played it I think it's a game that every gamer should experience.  The game is hard but fair, when you die it's because of something you did, not the game.  The combat is probably the best in any game especially when using the sword and shield, you have to play under control and as soon as you extend yourself or relax the game will punish you.  The sequel comes out in March and I can't wait.

Fallout:  New Vegas

I think I've started this game about 4 or 5 times now, I initially played around 20 hours but then got sidetracked again.  I've put a few graphic mods on and the game looks fantastic, since I've never beaten the game I didn't put on any major additions.  The game has been crashing on me lately so I need to figure out what that is but I'm enjoying the game.

Skyrim

Not much to say but I put on a couple of mods and I'm the Dragonborn.

Metal Gear Revengance

I've played the opening hour twice and will have to play it a third time because the game isn't saving my progress even though it says that it is.  The game has a ton of style and the combat is fun I just need it to work correctly.

New Releases - Not many games coming out which is still a good thing.

Spluenky, Batman Origins and Stuff

Sorry for the lack of posts recently, I've been battling the flu and think I've finally got it defeated.  Haven't been playing too many games and haven't touched the new consoles in a couple of weeks, PC still remains supreme.

Spluenky

Been addicted for quite awhile and playing on PC and the Vita.  The game is a blast even though I've died a couple of hundred times and haven't even gotten to the 3rd level.  It's an rogue action platformer that is has randomized dungeons full of creatures and traps to kill you.  That's really all you need to know half the fun is experiencing the game and finding out stuff on your own.

Batman: Arkham Origins
Trying to finish this game up and I'm about 40% through after about 20 hours of play.  I'm really enjoying the story of the game and the cutscenes are awesome.  The new Joker is really good and evil.  The game still has the best melee combat of any game and exploring the city is just fun.  It may not be too different from Arkham city but it really didn't need to be, playing as Batman is great.

Stuff

PS4 and Xbox One have already outsold the WiiU.
875,000 copies of Dayz standalone has been sold in about a month, that's crazy.

Fanatec Shifter, Logitech Z906

Fanatec Shifter with GT6

Finally got a chance to configure and try out my new shifter and it's awesome.  I spent about 5 hours playing on Saturday and I really like it.  There is a small issue with GT6 and how it uses the clutch so I did have some problems when shifting but it wasn't the shifters fault.  I've read on the forums and it seems a lot of people don't like how the clutch is implemented so hopefully they will fix it.  I had multiple instances where I shifted correctly but it put the car in neutral which did cost me a couple of 1st place finishes. Playing with a clutch, 6 speed shifter, and a buttkicker speaker is an awesome driving experience.

I'm still liking GT6 and how fast it loads the races.  I've moved up to the National A races where I was finishing in the top 3 when shifting with the paddles, I haven't been as good with the shifter and clutch, but I'm getting better.  I may try Forza 5 sometime this week and see how that fares, from what I remember it's around 20-25 seconds to load a race and I really don't like waiting.

Logitech Z906 Speakers

Bought a set of these last week and set them up on my Obutto rig and they are great.  It's a 5.1 surround sound system that is THX certified with a 8 inch sub.  My older system didn't support any kind of digital input so when I played my GT6 on PS3 I only had stereo sound which isn't that great.  This set does support digital with 2 optical and 1 coax, no hdmi unfortunately, but since both consoles can output sound through optical it's all I need.  I tried hooking up my PC using optical but had issues with Dobly Digital Live so I just went back to analog.

The speakers sound great and are perfect for gaming.  The bass is nice and deep and I heard some cool bass lines that I don't remember hearing before in some of my songs.  Playing BF4 in 5.1 with War Tapes mode on is just an awesome experience, you hear planes and bullets whizzing overhead and at times it's almost too intense.

When I purchased these I had an issue with my Credit Card and I didn't think that my order went through so I used a different card and ended up getting 2 sets so if anyone is interested in this speaker system let me know.  It would make a decent home theater setup as well, they really tried to make the set look nice so that it could be placed in the living room so they don't have to be used just on a PC.
